CKFF Ambassador Steve Torrence wins NHRA Top Fuel Title

Steve Torrence on a march to victory

Chris Kyle Frog Foundation Ambassador, Steve Torrence has secured his first ever NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Championship at The Strip, Las Vegas, with one round to go in the 2018 Championship.

The Kilgore, Texas native not only secured the Championship before the Final, he went on to continue his devastating recent run by winning the penultimate round of the Mello Yello Series.

Such has his dominance been in the NHRA Countdown – drag racing’s playoffs Series – he has now won five of those Countdown events, the Capco Contractors team extending its win streak to 10 events in season 2018. Steve has won 20 straight elimination rounds in his march to the Title, including eliminating his father Billy in round two. Vegas was his 30th career NHRA Final round win – four in Top Alcohol and 26 in Top Fuel.

The Texas-based team carries with it the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation logo and Steve along with the Capco crew have enjoyed a strong relationship with the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation team for a number of seasons now, hosting military and first responder couples at select events over the past few years.

Torrence embodies the spirit of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation through his own story of perseverance and courage. Overcoming cancer at a young age, he went on to win an NHRA Top Alcohol Title in 2005 before entering Top Fuel – the fastest land based vehicles on earth.

Last year, he survived a heart attack which put him on the sidelines for a brief moment.

“Honestly, I don’t have words to describe this,” said Torrence. “All the glory goes to God. I’m thankful for all the support from my mom and my dad and all these Capco boys. The whole team that has been behind me all season long. I guess to anyone who said we couldn’t do this… here we are.”

The Chris Kyle Frog Foundation team congratulates Steve Torrence, Billy and Momma Kay, along with the entire Capco Contractors team on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Title – it’s an honor to have the Frog flying at 330mph down the strip!

The NHRA Mello Yello season comes to a close November 8-11 at Pomona in California. TV coverage will be on Fox Sports with coverage of the Finals live on Sunday from 4pm Eastern.
